'Roja malare rajakumari . . . . .'

The best story-teller on stage this far for Season 2013 - actor Sacchu.

On Monday evening, December 9, at the awards function at Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha in T. Nagar actor Sacchu was among the awardees for her contribution to theatre.

And when her turn came to speak, last in the line, she took a brisk walk to the podium, folded her hands and set off on an anecdotal trail.

Specifically, she rewound to two incidents that took place on this stage.

One, many years ago when a power break down tripped the actors just as they were about to launch into the climax. The power was not going to be restored soon so the actors asked the audience if they would wait for the lights to come on or experience the climax in the dark. People okayed the latter and the experience was unique, she said, jigging the memories of another veteran actor, ARS who was also present.

At the event, the hosts provided a nice touch - they ran clips of each awardees performance on two screens flanking the stage.

"I was wondering what they would show when my turn came," mused the lady. "Then I told dancer Lakshmi that they would run ' Roja Malare....'.

They did and that was indeed the most tingling part of the evening. The lilting all time favourite song from Sacchu's big hit made by AVM.
